To Concerned,
Our small neighborhood group has been helping with what we can in our local
schools but realize that so much more needs to be done. More than our little civic group has been able to achieve. We’ve titled our group, Educacion Primero, and with this group we have been able to accomplish a little more success, but we haven’t fulfilled the total needs as yet.
We’re not looking for computers or college grants or anything of that nature. Out
here in the interior province of Cocle we’re just trying to get the BASICS. We’re talking about classrooms/schools that are nothing more than one room unpainted block walls with a leaking metal roof. We want to improve the situation by installing electricity for lighting and water for a toilet and a sink. Provide desks, chalkboards, and the necessary materials to create a learning environment where the teacher can commence educating these young minds. We want to get books, pencils, paper, crayons and chalk to provide the very basic needs for these children to acquire an education.
It is such a wonderful feeling whenever we finish something at the schools and
our only reward is the smiles and the “gracias” we get. We ask for nothing for our group except the materials to create, the funds, (dollar for dollar spent directly in the school, no admin. fees, no salaries, etc.), and the free time of the parents and friends that help put it all together. “Friends helping children/Amigos ayudando ninos.”
The problem is, “it feels too good to stop”, and we want to finish these schools
and commence on the others in our province as well as maintain what has been done.
These kids need help, many children need help everywhere. We do what we can
and we hope you might see fit to assist us in our endeavor.
